Since 1903, Martel & Sons Inc. has been manufacturing and selling monuments at the retail level. For the past 20 years, we have extended our sales to the wholesale level, plus, we have diversified our work to provide for commercial and residential granite, ornamental, columbariums and mausoleums. We also work with the Department of Supply & Services Canada as suppliers of veterans’ stones for the province of Quebec, and private businesses for the design of special architectural work of arts.
Martel & Sons Inc, has been awarded many contracts such as by National Capital Commission. Among those was the Peace Keeping Monument installed in Ottawa. It has over 7000 letters inscribed on it.
Just in the last 2 years, Martel & Sons Inc. has worked with architects, engineers and designers to realize special memorial projects such as :
1- Peterborough Wall of Honour, which has twelve tan brown boulders of 32,000 pounds (14 514,95 kg) with each a black granite insertion, where you can read over 15 000 characters.
2- Petawawa Canadian Force Base, where Martel & Sons Inc. has erected a massive maple leaf, made out of black and grey granite in honour of the Canadian militaries that passed away in Afghanistan.
3- Martel & Sons Inc. just finished working on The Canadian Fire Fighters Memorial in Ottawa where over 10 000 characters were engraved.
Martel & Sons Inc. has received the Achievement Award from the Monument Builders of North America in 1986, 1989, 1991, 1993 and in 1994, regiven a life achievement award.
In 1993, Martel & Sons Inc. won the Grant Merit Award in Hawkesbury, Ontario at the "Gala d’Excellence", promotion of Manufacturers, Industries and Businesses, as well as the Merit Award for the Manufacturer and Industrial Sector of less than 50 employees. The latter was already won in 1991.
In 1993, 1994 and 1995, Martel & Sons Inc. brought home the trophy from the public at the Commercial Fair in Hawkesbury.
In 2011, the Ontario Monument Builders Association has honoured Martel & Sons Inc., with the Donna Weber Youth Award in recognition for its outstanding contributions to local youth activities.
